The Ministry of Music

at University Presbyterian Church

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

                                                             - Psalm 150

Saint Augustine wrote "They who sing pray twice."  In the margin of his own Bible, written in the book of Chronicles, Johann Sebastian Bach wrote "...that besides other forms of worship, music, too, was especially ordered by God's spirit through David."  And Martin Luther wrote "Music is an outstanding gift of God and next to theology ... a precious gift bestowed on people alone to remind them that they are created to praise and magnify the Lord."

Indeed, the music of the church is one of its greatest treasures.  It can embrace and inspire in times of joy and sorrow.  It can be a tool of evangelism.  It can bind the hearts of the faithful together as they sing a much-loved hymn or call them forward in their spiritual journey as they discover the wondrous alchemy of marvelous words and music.  It can bring us closer to God, to each other, and to ourselves.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the great love song that kindles and motivates and sustains the music at University Church!

We welcome you to visit the Music Menu Links located at the top left of this and each music webpage to learn more about the music program and the variety of musical opportunities available at University Church under the direction of Thomas Brown, Minister of Music, and Beth Auman Visser, Director of Children's Choirs.
