How do we pass along our faith and tradition to our children? How can we be sure we are laying a foundation that will sustain and encourage them for years to come? The ancient Israelites planned and prepared for the time when their children would ask faith questions and even placed markers that would entice those questions. Could we do the same?
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock." (Matthew 7:24-25 NRSV)
This parable is the basis for Rock Solid. We want children ages 3-12 to build a strong faith foundation so that when the storms of life overwhelm them (and they will at some time or another), their house of faith will not fall away. It will stand strong and give them the comfort, strength, and shelter found only in a loving God.
At each age level on every Sunday the children will be invited to a faith experience. It is during this time that they can come to a better understanding of God and what God calls them to do and be. They come to know Jesus as the Son of God and take his messages to heart. They seek where the Bible speaks to them today.
Each Sunday morning, UPC Church School Greeters will be strategically located near the entrances of the building. Greeters are also our Nursery Staff, dressed in bright green tye-dye shirts. As members and visitors find their way to classrooms and nurseries, these folks will be available to welcome and direct.
