Friday Women's Bible Study

An Altar in the World

The Friday Women's Bible Study has resumed as we welcome our new group leader, Amy Bowers Heit. The group will meet Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Garden Room for a discussion using Barbara Brown Taylor's book, An Altar in the World. Childcare is available.

Amy Bowers Heit  is an ordained PCUSA minister who grew up in Raleigh and has recently returned to the area with her husband and 2 year old daughter, Isla. They live in Durham. Amy is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary where she met her husband. The two of them spent several years in Glasgow, Scotland where Amy served as an associate pastor while her husband continued his studies. Isla was born in Glasgow... And they are now expecting their second child at the end of May.

Please contact Heather Ferguson at the church office with any questions (919-929-2102).

Special Lenten Study

Presbyterianism 101: An Introduction to the Reformed Tradition
Sunday Afternoons, February 10-March 17
Time: 5:15-6:45 p.m.
Location: the Education Office

Galileo condemned for heresy by Inquisition. Treaty of Westphalia ends Thirty-Year War.  Westminster Confession and Catechisms completed.  Salem Mass witch trials. Black Death appears finally in Marseille France. These are just a few of the fascinating historical events of the Reformation Era. Want to learn more?

Be a part of Presbyterianism 101!  Come and learn who we are as Presbyterians, and how we are similar and different from other Christian traditions.

  • You will be introduced to the lives of the major leaders of the Protestant Reformation.
  • You will discover how each of these leaders sought to resolve their own life crises.
  • You will learn why we are called "Protestants" and "Presbyterians".
  • You will discover how we are related to Lutherans, Episcopalians, Baptists, and Mennonites.
  • You will share with others and learn from others.

Leaders Bill and Mickey dePrater, retired PCUSA ministers, will help us explore the roots of the Reformation and how the events of surrounding this time shaped who we are today.

Please contact the church office (919-929-2102) if you would like to be a part of this study group or Heather Ferguson () if you have questions.
