| Two students in Caroline's Advanced French Class | In preparing their students to live in an increasingly interconnected world, the school emphasizes foreign languages. All of the students begin studying English in the first grade. For several years Marthame and Elizabeth Sanders taught the advanced English classes, and next year they are excited to have two American Mennonites coming to join the staff. As the students enter middle school, they are given the chance to add French as well. Currently, two young Frenchwomen, Veronique Allemon and Caroline Rouvillain, are teachers at the school, providing French lessons from native speakers. Father Aktham and his teachers have dreamed of a modernized language lab, with computer-assisted equipment that allows students and teachers to work through exercises, helping compensate for the fact that native English and French speakers are few and far between in that part of the world. |
